TOP 5 foods for a traveling Athlete

Athletes face different types of adversity one is when they’re traveling. Athletes traveling to a game, match or event need to be in their best physical shape and especially aware about meeting carbohydrate, protein, vitamin and mineral requirements, balancing energy intake, maintaining adequate hydration, and making sure food is prepared and stored safely. Thats why we ask you to invest in a SPORTS NUTRITION PROGRAM

Dining out
The best way to meet these requirements is to plan out the whens, wheres and whats regarding your meals.  Your plan should be as close to your regular (at home) diet as possible.  Choose restaurants that provide options that will help fuel your health, energy, and performance. Restaurants with a buffet option are usually great places for team meals as they provide a large variety of good foods for the athletes like pasta, brown rice, roti, chapatis, lean meats, salads, fish, chicken, and plenty of vegetables.

Snacks appropriate for Athletes
While on the road, the snacks you are used to picking up at your local convenience store may not be easy to find. Because they are important for recovery periods after training and between meals, make sure to bring some with you.  Some snacks worth packing are cereal, cereal bars, canned fruits, dried fruit, powdered sports drinks or milk, concentrated fruit juice, and (if a microwave or stove is available) baked beans, or instant noodles.

Food Safety
Food safety is the biggest problem athletes can face when traveling in foreign countries. To avoid the risk of infection and illness in areas where the water is questionable, drink only bottled water or water from sealed containers, avoid ice in your drinks, use bottled water when brushing your teeth, avoid salad vegetables unless they are washed in bottled or boiling water, and only eat fruit if it can be peeled. If you’re in an area where the food quality is questionable, eat only from reputable hotels or well known franchises, avoid street stalls and markets, avoid fish and shellfish, only consume food that is steaming hot or has been adequately refrigerated. Also avoid sharing cups, bottles, and utensils.

Being prepared for your trip is the best way to ensure your own success both while traveling and competing.  Speak to a dietitian call  +91 9743430000 India/International for a sports nutrition plan. To book an appointment CLICK HERE

How to get a Safe FAT BURNER?

I have the reputation of getting results for most people with Nutrition Plans at our Clinic. All these nutrition plans do rely on Supplements and sometimes FAT BURNERS are required. However, my choice of a fat burner always almost rests with L-Carnitine a molecule ...Intrinsic to the human body and even found in baby food formula.

I forgot, a video post 3 years ago is probably one of the most watched videos on the internet about L-carnitine. 21,830 views when this post went live!

If you want to know how to use a fat burner, get in touch with our team of dietitians  TO See the team of Dietitians CLICK HERE  Email me at ryan@quanutrition.com or call +91 9743430000. You will DIE 6 years earlier because Of DIABETES that starts during middle age

I am Middle Aged and scared. My father has mild sugar issues. He still eats sweets like a Kid. I am scared because beyond a certain age I cannot change my behaviour...So I started early... Early at the age of 37 eating right and hiring a personal trainer to discipline my workouts.

Let say I will live to the Age of 70. With Diabetes I will die at 63. At that age my financial advisor has indicated that I would be earning around Rs1.6 crores per annum. So if I conk off earlier I stand to loose about 10 crores, rather my family. Forget about LOVE and PAIN......lets focus on the money part.

Why Money??  Well today I spend 6000Rs on supplements, 6000 on a trainer, 2500 on a gym membership. These are the direct costs. As per my financial advisor the cost over 30 years is less than 1 crore......

Now living at 63,64,65,66, 67, 68, 69, 70 the way I want too...DIABETIC free I think from a money point is worth it....

I am not a DIABETIC! but I think this mail is for those of my friends who sail in the same boat as me....a family history of Inheritance...not of money but of BAD HEALTH....

We charge Rs 10,000 for a PREVENTION PLAN.....100 days of guidance with the best Nutritionists advising you step by step, with calls, emails, counselings,  nutrition charts, receipes and if your lucky a visit to the grocery store with you and your loved one on whats good and whats not! This then works for life....

Please do call me on 080 3232 9292 and speak to us on why we WANT YOU TO INVEST IN YOUR HEALTH via Nutrition.....

The above 6 years shorter lifespan is pulled from the below article featured in http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/218138.php

Individuals who develop diabetes during middle age have an average lifespan six years shorter than other people, researchers from the University of Cambridge, England, revealed in the New England Journal of Medicine after carrying out a major, multinational study, involving over 250 scientists from 25 nations.

We already know that diabetes doubles the risk of some life-threatening diseases, such as strokes and heart attacks. However, this study showed that several other diseases are more likely to affect people with diabetes, including infections and cancer.

Diabetes affects almost 285 million people globally. The authors said that their study highlights the importance of preventing diabetes.

Researchers from the Emerging Risk Factors Collaboration gathered data on 820,900 individuals. They were all carefully monitored for approximately one decade. After taking into account major risk factors, such as smoking, age, and sex, they found that patients with diabetes had a higher chance of dying from various forms of cancer, mental illnesses, infections, and diseases of the lungs, kidneys liver and digestive system.

Most of the shortened life expectancy comes from strokes, heart attacks and other blood vessel diseases, the authors explained. Only a small number of links were explained by hypertension (high blood pressure, high blood lipid levels or obesity - conditions which commonly exist with diabetes II patients.

About 60 per cent of the reduced life expectancy in people with diabetes is attributable to blood vessel diseases (such as heart attacks and strokes), with the remainder attributable to these other conditions. Only a small part of these associations are explained by obesity, blood pressure, or high levels of fat in the blood - conditions which often co-exist with diabetes.

My metabolic age is 26. ( Its my Birthday Today and 37 years as per my birth certificate)  Astaxanthin...a secret blend I have at my clinic. As a clinical Biochemist and Food Bio technologist I constantly try to push the metabolic understanding of the human body and how nutrition can cheat...YES CHEAT your body into Wellness.

If you want to CHEAT THE CLOCK, call me on +91 9743430000(India/ International) or email me at ryan@quanutrition.com.

For those of you who want to know more and how it happens, this video summaries techniques we use in India at our Clinic.

Chronological age is your age in calendar years. Basal metabolic rate is the amount of energy consumed per unit of time when all environmental factors are considered neutral, the digestive system is in a post-absorptive state (meaning that the digestive system is inactive, which requires about twelve hours of fasting in humans), and the energy expenditure is only sufficient to support normal functioning of the vital organs, the heart, lungs, nervous system, kidneys, liver, intestine, sex organs, muscles, and skin. Formulas for calculating basal metabolic rate take into account age, weight, height, activity level, body fat mass, and lean body mass.

An individual's metabolic age will vary depending how their calculated basal metabolic rate compares to others of the same chronological age. Metabolic age is a new term used in the health and fitness industry to describe overall fitness and metabolic activity. Examining metabolic age will give insights to the overall level of health and wellness in comparison to those of the same age. Improving personal fitness is a main concern of most health-conscious individuals

Be Careful when buying PROBIOTICs- USE CAUTION on YAKULT

Yakult needs to pull up its socks in India. A wonderful Probiotic drink that I personally use, but I now want to ask you to BUY FROM THEIR COLD STORE DEPOTS DIRECTLY. My reason is the shopkeepers and supermarkets are KILLING the good bacteria and so your BUYING SUGAR milk and no healthy benefit. The VIDEO HERE shows how Yakult is being mistreated in Storage at supermarket. THIS VIDEO is courtesy the PREMIUM Chain of GODREJ format store....and I AM ANGRY at them for not having systems in place to ensure compliance. SHAME on you GODREJ and YAKULT......( by the way I earlier complained to Yakult but they seem to be poor at their job at convincing their personnel to do the monitoring.....) Please share this with your loved ones and read further on safety for PROBIOTICS.

TO know how my dietitians can guide you on your choice of probiotics including YAKULT which I still love....( I buy directly from the company now...and hopefully the MORON truck drivers in India will keep their Refrigeration truck ON, so factory to company depot ..may be good!)

AS PER MY KNOWLEDGE ON PROBIOTICS you need to keep it Refrigerated and rise in temp should be inside your body.....As per Yakult's website  " 20. How long can Yakult be kept after taken out from the fridge?
It is not a problem to keep Yakult outside of the fridge for awhile. The Yakult bacteria slowly become active at temperature between 15 to 40 degrees Celsius.

When the bacteria become active, it will begin to produce lactic acid, which will affect the taste and make it sour. When there is too much acid produced, the bacteria will die, and the product will be less effective.

So, when Yakult is left outside of the fridge, the taste will become more sour and it will be less effective, but you can still drink it. However, it is best to keep Yakult refrigerated so you can fully enjoy the taste and health benefits."

People who take supplements that are supposed to contain beneficial bacteria (probiotics) may not be getting their money’s worth, according to a study presented by researchers from Bastyr University (Kenmore, WA). The finding that some of these products do not contain viable bacteria or are contaminated with other potentially harmful bacteria raises concerns about the safety and efficacy of these products.
The intestinal tract contains billions of beneficial bacteria that perform various necessary functions, such as aiding in the digestion and absorption of food and protecting the body against microorganisms that can cause infection. While there are dozens of different types of friendly bacteria,Lactobacillus acidophilusL. bulgaricus, L. thermophilus, L. reuteri, and Bifidobacterium bifidum are some of the more common strains found in the gut. Studies suggest that taking supplements containing these bacteria can help boost immune function and prevent or relieve certain health conditions including irritable bowel syndrome, vaginal yeast infections, and traveler’s diarrhea. However, commercially available probiotic products that do not contain what they are purported to contain will not deliver these benefits.

According to this new report, laboratory testing of 12 refrigerated and 8 non-refrigerated, randomly selected probiotic supplements obtained from different health food stores revealed that only one product contained the same bacteria as those listed on the label. Many of the refrigerated products had some beneficial bacteria, but contained fewer species of organisms than the label claimed. More than 30% of all supplements were contaminated with other microorganisms and 50% of the non-refrigerated products were completely dead. Dead probiotics have no impact on improving intestinal function or restoring the balance of normal intestinal flora.

The deficiencies found in these probiotic supplements may be due to poor manufacturing processes, poor quality control, or other environmental factors that cause the bacteria to deteriorate. While some probiotics are stable at room temperature, most require refrigeration to maintain live cultures. The findings in the new study suggest that many probiotic supplements will provide no benefit due to lack of viable organisms and may cause infection if contaminated with organisms that cause disease. However, no reports have been published linking a probiotic supplement to an intestinal infection. It is unclear at this point whether there are any adverse effects from the bacterial contaminants found in probiotic supplements.

So the bottom line, You know probiotics are good. At QUA NUTRITION our dietitians will help you decide and educate you about the best choices for your body. Call India & International +919743430000 or email us at devika@quanutrition.com to know more.
